How Does In-Browser PDF Extraction Work?
Reading selectable text and arranging text items
PDF pages store text with positioning and font information rather than as ordinary paragraphs. This tool uses PDF.js to read the selectable text layer and the position of each text item. It then sorts items and groups them into approximate lines. The output is useful for many digital PDFs, but complex page layouts can require manual correction.
- Semantic Layout Analysis: Uses text positions to arrange items into approximate lines and paragraphs.
- Table Grid Detection: Does not rebuild table cells or spreadsheet formulas. Copy extracted table text into a spreadsheet and check its columns manually.
- Embedded Image Extraction: Does not extract embedded images. Image-only pages need OCR before text can be extracted.
