PRIVACY BY DESIGN

Zero Cloud Uploads: Browser-based PDF creation

The PDF is generated in the page using PDF-Lib. Speech recognition is a separate browser API; some browsers may use remote speech services, so do not assume microphone audio is processed only on your device.

πŸ›‘οΈ

PDF Creation in the Browser

The supplied speech-to-pdf.js creates the PDF with PDF-Lib in the browser. This script does not upload the transcript or generated PDF to an application upload endpoint.

🧹

Speech Recognition Is Browser-Dependent

The page uses the Web Speech API when the browser exposes it. The API implementation and audio handling are controlled by the browser and its speech provider; some implementations may send audio to a remote service.

βš–οΈ

External Library Dependency

PDF-Lib is loaded from jsDelivr. The page also loads shared site scripts, styles and other assets. This source review does not audit all deployed-site requests, analytics or browser-provider processing.

COMPLETE GUIDE & SPECIFICATIONS

The Complete Guide to Transcribing Voice & Speech Directly to PDF

How browser speech recognition works, how text becomes a PDF, and what to check before using the exported document.

1

How Voice Dictation Works

The page uses the browser's Web Speech API when supported.

When you start dictation, the browser requests microphone access and sends recognition results to the page. Interim results can change; final results are appended to the editable transcript. Browser implementations differ, including in how audio is processed.

  • Important: Recognition support varies by browser and operating system.
  • Note: A microphone permission prompt may appear. Use a secure HTTPS page and check browser permissions if dictation does not start.
  • Tip: If speech recognition is unavailable, you can still type or paste text and generate a PDF.
2

How the PDF Is Created

PDF-Lib turns the current transcript into pages.

The script creates a new PDF, applies the selected page dimensions, margins, font and line spacing, then writes text lines and optional page numbers. The exported file is generated locally by the page's JavaScript.

  • Important: The PDF is a text document, not an audio file or a transcript with embedded audio.
  • Note: The standard PDF fonts bundled with PDF-Lib have limited character coverage. Some non-Latin scripts and complex text shaping require embedded Unicode fonts and additional shaping support.
  • Tip: Always inspect the exported PDF, especially when using Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, emoji or other non-Latin characters.
3

Speech Recognition Privacy and Permissions

PDF generation and speech recognition have different data paths.

The provided script does not send transcript text or the generated PDF to an application upload endpoint. However, Web Speech API audio handling is browser- and provider-dependent and may involve remote services.

  • Important: Do not describe microphone audio as guaranteed local-only unless the browser/provider confirms it.
  • Note: Review your browser's speech-recognition privacy information and microphone permission settings.
  • Tip: Avoid dictating sensitive information unless you understand how your browser handles speech recognition.
4

Supported Languages and Accuracy

The language menu is a list of recognition language codes, not a guarantee of accuracy.

The interface offers English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish and Simplified Chinese selections. Whether each language works depends on browser implementation, installed language support and provider availability.

  • Important: Accents, background noise, microphone quality and specialist vocabulary affect transcription.
  • Note: Review names, numbers, dates, addresses and technical terms manually.
  • Tip: Use the text editor to correct the transcript before PDF export.
5

Document Layout and Pagination

Choose page size, orientation, margins, font and spacing before export.

The generator supports A4, US Letter and Legal page sizes, portrait and landscape orientation, several standard PDF fonts, font sizes, margins and line spacing.

  • Important: The current PDF font set does not provide universal Unicode coverage.
  • Note: Long unbroken strings, URLs and unsupported characters need special handling; the updated generator wraps long tokens and warns about unsupported characters.
  • Tip: Keep the original transcript in the editor until you have checked the exported PDF.

DIAGNOSTICS & QUICK FIXES

Common Issues & Troubleshooting Fixes

Encountering an unexpected hurdle with your document? Here are the most effective solutions and diagnostics.

πŸ”’

Microphone Button Does Nothing

Possible cause: The page may not be served over HTTPS, microphone permission may be blocked, or the browser may not support Web Speech API.

Recommended check

Open the site over HTTPS, allow microphone access in browser settings, and try a compatible browser. You can still type or paste text.

πŸ“¦

Speech Recognition Stops Unexpectedly

Possible cause: Some browser speech services end a continuous session after silence, connection changes or provider timeouts.

Recommended check

Press the microphone button to resume. Check your connection and microphone. The transcript already added to the editor remains available.

⚠️

The Wrong Words or Language Appear

Possible cause: The selected language may not match your spoken language, or background noise and accents may affect recognition.

Recommended check

Choose the closest language option, speak clearly, reduce background noise and proofread the transcript before export.

πŸ“

PDF Shows Missing or Unsupported Characters

Possible cause: The built-in PDF standard fonts do not cover all Unicode scripts or complex text shaping.

Recommended check

The updated generator reports unsupported characters instead of silently exporting broken glyphs. Urdu, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese require an embedded Unicode font and appropriate shaping support.

πŸ“

Long URLs or Unbroken Text Run Off the Page

Possible cause: Long strings may not contain spaces where a conventional word-wrapping algorithm expects them.

Recommended check

The updated generator splits long tokens to fit the selected text width. Review unusually long identifiers and URLs in the exported PDF.

πŸ”

PDF Generation Fails

Possible cause: The PDF-Lib CDN may not have loaded, or the selected options and text may exceed browser resources.

Recommended check

Refresh the page, check the browser connection, reduce very large text blocks and try again. Copy your transcript first so you have a backup.

POWER TIP

Batch Conversion Available: You can drop multiple SPEECH files into the workspace simultaneously to convert them in a single click, saving you time of repetitive manual exports.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about dictation, browser support, language options, editing transcripts and speech-recognition privacy.

Q How do I convert my voice into a PDF?

Choose a language, start dictation and speak into your microphone. Edit the recognized text, set your document options and select Generate PDF.

Q Which browsers support voice dictation?

Voice dictation requires a browser that exposes the Web Speech API. Support and behavior vary by browser, operating system and device. You can still type or paste text where voice recognition is unavailable.

Q Which languages can I dictate in?

The language menu includes English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish and Simplified Chinese. Availability and accuracy depend on the browser and its speech-recognition provider.

Q Can I edit the transcript before creating the PDF?

Yes. The transcript remains editable in the text area. Correct recognition mistakes, add paragraphs or paste additional text before exporting.

Q Is microphone audio processed only on my device?

Not necessarily. The page uses the browser's Web Speech API, and some browser implementations may send audio to a remote speech-recognition service. PDF generation is handled by the page's JavaScript, but speech-recognition privacy depends on your browser and provider.
