Prepare PDF Metadata for Archival Workflows

Update a PDF's title, author and optional XMP metadata in your browser. This is a metadata preparation toolβ€”not a PDF/A converter or compliance validator.

Important: PDF/A compliance requires more than metadata tags. This tool prepares PDF metadata only; it does not embed required fonts or color profiles, convert all document features, or run an ISO 19005 validator.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about metadata editing, PDF/A requirements, file handling and the limits of this browser-based tool.

Q Does this tool convert a PDF into a certified PDF/A file?

No. It updates document information and can add general XMP metadata. It does not perform full ISO 19005 conversion or validate PDF/A conformance.

Q What is the difference between PDF and PDF/A?

PDF/A is an ISO-standardized archival profile with requirements for fonts, color management, metadata, encryption and other document features. Adding a PDF/A identification tag alone does not make a file compliant.

Q Can I choose PDF/A-1b, PDF/A-2b or PDF/A-3b here?

No PDF/A profile is generated by this page. Any profile selection must be handled by a standards-aware conversion engine and verified separately.

Q What metadata can I update?

You can set the document title and author, update standard PDF information fields, and optionally add an XMP metadata packet. This does not guarantee archival compliance.

Q Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

The supplied page processes the selected PDF in your browser using its JavaScript libraries. Those libraries are loaded from third-party CDNs, so normal network requests still occur.
